revised Code of Ethics for Museums

At the ICOM Annual General Assembly (June 24-25, 2026), a revised Code of Ethics for Museums was adapted, which prescribes/indicates ethical principles for museum institutions and museum professionals to help museums (and professionals) protect cultural heritage, strengthen public trust, responsibly manage museum collections, and enhance the social relevance of museums. The new text of the Code of Ethics reflects the role of museums in today’s society and is aligned with the recent ICOM definition of a museum adopted in Prague in 2022.
